What exactly is veneer?
Dandruff results from the abnormal proliferation of microorganisms belonging to the Malassezia family, which are yeast. This phenomenon causes skin cells to regenerate very quickly. They appear in clumps on your scalp, forming large crusts or patches that fall off or become so sticky that they appear oily and yellowish to gray in color.
Dandruff can be accompanied by an irritated and inflamed scalp with intense itching. Dandruff appears in your hair, and in most cases, it is located on your neck and shoulders, especially during hair styling. Fatigue, stress, pollution and winter are all factors that can promote or increase the spread of Malassezia fungi and thus the appearance of dandruff.
What are the different types of veneers?
There are two types: dry dandruff and oily dandruff, and we can obtain information about the root cause of them through their different forms. .
In cases of moderate dandruff, the scales are thin, dry, gray or white and do not adhere to the scalp so that they fall to the shoulders.
While the thick, greasy, yellow crust adheres to the scalp and is usually accompanied by itching, it is considered a mild form of seborrheic dermatitis. The scalp is often pink and irritated.
Dry, white patches accompanied by redness are mainly characteristic of psoriasis. In this case, itching also occurs.
If you have concerns and questions about severe dandruff, contact your dermatologist.
What causes chronic scaly patches or psoriasis?
Psoriasis is characterized by severe scaling with dry areas that appear as thick, clearly defined patches - especially on the edge of the scalp - that are round or oval in shape, with redness and scaling. These scales vary in size and can resemble a helmet covering the entire scalp. They are silvery white, compact, particularly dry and sticky and usually accompanied by intense itching.
Genetic predisposition, stress, some types of infections (eyes, nose, throat, and teeth in particular), and the use of certain medications (lithium, synthetic antimalarials, beta-blockers, etc.) can play a role in the appearance of severe crusts with dry areas.
It results from a combination of 3 phenomena:
1/ Hyperproliferation of skin cells
, which leads to increased skin density on the spots, with redness and peeling.
2/ An imbalance in the cell renewal process
Skin, this process that usually lasts about 30 days is reduced to less than one week (3 to 6 days). Keratinocytes have regeneration problems during aging: they maintain their nuclei until they reach the stratum corneum.
3/ Inflammatory reaction in the dermis layer of the skin.
Scales and dry areas alternate in successive stages of irritation and inflammation.
What makes the scales sharp and severe?
Hard scales can be associated with two diseases: seborrheic dermatitis and psoriasis.
1. With seborrheic dermatitis, the cause of its formation is the same as that of dandruff (multiplication of Malassezia yeast) and its clinical signs are more pronounced..
2. Psoriasis is not caused by the proliferation of fungi. Rather, it is a completely different condition related to genetic predisposition highlighted by environmental factors.
